...inviting and homey....

"Staying at this place near the Assiniboine River was truly a very nice experience - If you like to spend a good time in nature, being calm and feel free – then you have to stay here!
The little house feels so inviting and homey… with attentive, friendly and sincere service…away from home to another home!

I only wish I could have spent more time there... will be back to stay in a flash!

...a quiet place to escape to....

"As a writer, I sometimes need a place to escape with just my notebook. Somewhere I can spend that crucial time in my head, focused, with no distractions so I can put those ideas in order.     The Lavenham Retreat offered me that space.    A serene, secluded, getaway with just enough comforts of home." Gordie Farrell, songwriter, Winnipeg 2012

...a sanctuary from the hectic life we all tend to live....

Lynda calls this her little retreat over the hill however I would rather call it a sanctuary from the hectic life we all tend to live these days.

This little house is a restored farmhouse, which is set beautifully into the countryside of Manitoba thereby creating a living image of the spirit of the Canadian prairie. Here, you wake up in the morning to the song of birds rather than the noise of cars and in the evening you sit outside watching the ground squirrels running around rather than watching TV. Even though the house provides all modern comforts of living, there are intentionally no WIFI or other distracting gadgets and it is truly amazing to experience how soothing the calls of these ground squirrels can be when actively listening to them…..

Although the farm is no longer in operation as such, there are still some cattle around, so to say as grazing guests from a neighbour’s farm, thereby completing the “Wild West” scenery and a feeling of “back in time” and away from the treadmills of today.

This all makes Lavenham farm not only to a beautiful holiday place but to a perfect refuge from our normal life, providing us finally with some time to reflect on ourselves and the things that really do count in our life.

I came to Lavenham after a full week of leadership training in order to have some time to reflect on my values, the vision I had created for my team and myself and the mission statements, I had just written down during the last couple of days. However, all this had to sink in deeper and to grow further, before I could start defining the actions and changes needed to build a high performing team at work and also to re-energise on a regular basis.

To do this reflection, Lavenham was the perfect place for me, providing me with a detached space from the daily routines and some undisrupted time to reflect on what things I wanted to do more from now on ….. and even more important, what things I wanted to do no longer.

And if you have worked enough on these, then there are also plenty of other things to do around here! There are beautiful viewpoints all around the countryside, quiet nature walks or a calm river to sit at and if all this is all not enough for you, then there are also good opportunities close by to go horse back riding, canoeing or biking.

Lynda’s house is within easy walking distance allowing you to stay undisturbed if you wish to be alone or to join her on walks and otherwise experience her amazing hospitality.

I enjoyed these days at Lavenham so much, that I am absolutely sure I will come back to it at some point in time….. Yes, I do believe that providing ourselves with time to reflect at a peaceful place is a gift we all should treat ourselves to more often. And Lynda’s Lavenham retreat is truly one of these special places for me to do so.

Thank you!
